Here's the Skinny, I've been working on this 700r4>B230ft(new motor, turbo cam, big valves) swap the past 2 months and finally have it completed. Filled trans with 6 qrts prior to start up...Car fired up first try, idled nicely. Ran the shifter through all gears a few times per past teachings to fill the valve body/tq with fluid. Added 3 more qts to tranny via car still idling, got back in car shift through gears again a few times, held rpms at 1500rpm white shifting through gears. Poured another 3 qtrs in tranny, total of 12 qts in tranny so far. Car wont spin the tires
(there up in the air) in any gear.Feels like its in neutral in all gears. Did a pressure test on the tranny over the weekend, its pressure falls within in spec of the recommend pressures I found oinline. I did all three test as instructed via bowtie website. I guess that means the front pump is doing its job..??

I have a tranny cooler up front at the intercooler, bypassed the factory radiator cooler. This tranny I bought last year from a unknown guy that said it worked when pulled. The only thing I did not do is fill the converter with fluid prior to installing, its a new TQ. How big of an issue is this? Is 12qts enough? Its reading more than full on the dipstick when warm. What else might be the issue? Comments are appreciated....

Does it engage park and lock the rear wheels?

Sounds like a valve body issue if you have fluid pressure, or a linkage issue inside the trans.

That or the trans was smoked and you got hosed on the deal.

has it ever spun the wheels in the air? did you hook the detent cable up correctly?
No. Yes, I have a 200r4 in the Pontiac been down that road with the TV and.
It's does drop 200rpm via ms tach when put in reverse and 2,1 not at all in D.

I need to check this when I get home...
Thx.

The wheels do spin while in park they do not lock..

I'm pulling this thing tomorrow....

Sounds like the sprag is in backwards. Don't ask how I know that.

Check the easy stuff first by dropping the pan and looking at the shift linkage. If it isn't the shift linkage, it's internal and it has to come out. It is not likely to be a valve body issue on a 700.

Who rebuilt it? Did they use the Shift Jr. kit, Kevlar band and Red Eagle clutches? Is the shell upgraded? If not, then they need to be.

hah! yeah, I did that with my 400 first time through... had reverse, had first, locked up, and I think it had 3rd.

yeah if it's gotta come out and get looked at, look at *everything*

not sure if the 700 is similar in the back half to the 350, but if it's got that hollow center support shaft (or is it the sun support shaft.. damn, it's been a long 5 years), you'll want to double bush that guy. it's cheap and it stabilizes things a bit better and cuts down on the rate at which it wears on the bushings.

Allegedly this transmission came out of a running vehicle,a high 11 second Camaro that was wrecked. The seller said it's built for 500 horsepower upgraded sprag clutchs,v valve body all that jive.. I did reach out to the seller all these months later and he did say the transmission was sitting for about 8 to 9 months before I bought it

And the crappy part is.....I think I have to pull the motor out of the wagon to separate the transmission. Due to the size of the 700's bell housing and the narrow tunnel in the 740. I will find out either way. Thx for everyone's input.

you might be able to weasel it out, doesn't hurt to try.i can get the 400 in and out of mine, but it's not the easiest thing
